Inspirational Bible Verses | Psalms 23:1-6 | The Attributes of God

Lesson Topic– The Attributes of God

Text- Psalms 23:1-6

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

1. Authorship

David: a former shepherd, who can identify with every aspect of what it takes to be a good shepherd. This is a song of trust. This is the best known and best love Psalm of all of the Psalms.

2. How God Is Revealed In The Text

vs. 1- Provider

vs. 2- Rest and refreshment

vs. 3- Restorer of your Soul

vs. 4- Comforter

vs. 5- Gracious host

vs.6- Goodness and Mercy

3. Key Points Found In The Text

A.- Because God is we are. Our well being is tied directly to Christ being our shepherd. He is handling every path our life should go in.

B.- The rod and staff of God keeps us in line when we allow him

C.- The valley is dark, deep, and the presence of death is all around you. But it is in the valley where Jesus become the “Lily of the Valley” in your life. Somethings you have to grow through.

Notice that the anointing does not come until you have been through the valley. In addition, overflow does not come until you have been through the valley.

Conclusion

Because God has revealed himself to us in all of the listed ways and given to us promises and benefits David’s response is appropriate. I am going to stay with God and worship and praise him in his House forever!  In the Hebrew language David is saying I am going to worship in the Temple for as long as he lives. What is your response?
